I am not a photographer nor somebody who is good at picture taking at all. But, I am the one who happens to snap shots of what is seen on this blog.  I am learning. Sometimes, bebe would help to take pictures which are also the better looking ones. He is the one who got me into photography.

Pictures seen on this blog are either taken using Nikon lens of 50mm f/1.8, or the good ol’ trusty Canon Ixus 80IS for quick snaps. I use Canon point & shoot for restaurant visits all the time to be discrete. Nikon is used at home for cooking sessions.

Some humble  pointers for food picture taking:

i. Don’t be afraid to use flash – I cook during evening time mostly. When everything is done and dished up, I would not have much natural light to take advantage of, under the grey Irish sky. I have to use the Nikon flash powered up to 0.7 to 1.3.  Of course, if you have good natural light to be avail of, make full use of it.

ii. Taking pictures in restaurant - I only bring my small and slim Canon p & s camera to a restaurant. I usually check out the restaurant during lunch time. Not only set lunch is cheaper compared to set dinner, the room is usually brighter to make use of the natural light. Choose a window seat. With that, no need to use any flash at all to annoy your neighbouring tables.

iii. Large aperture – I use aperture set to F4 and above most of the time. A clear overview of the dish is what I like to share here.

Feel free to leave tips on how I can improve my food photography.

(Updated on 4 Oct 09 – I’m now based in Singapore for the moment since mid-Sept 2009, where I am unlikely to cook. So stay tuned for the  food adventures in Singapore instead. Cheers!)
