I decided to visit Etna restaurant famed for her Sicilian cuisine (according to the words of blogs). This would be my only second trip to a Italian restaurant based in Singapore, and I was looking forward to it.
The main motivation was the current promotion of buy 1-for-1 with UOB card for pizzas or pasta.
I was excited, then I felt a bit misled, but that would be purely on the management side, we will talk about it later on.
Bruschetta Etna $8.50
The dish was presented in four varieties, giving a selection of cold grilled aubergine slices, cherry tomatoes, ham & rocket leaves and mozzarella.
The aubergine was really salty, and the rest were rustic and really simple (where one could easily replicate at home).
I wished the bread could be fresher, warmer, softer inside and thicker.
Linguine con Capesante (Flat pasta with scallops in pink lobster sauce) $22
The title was inviting I thought, so, I tried. Overall, it was good but mediocre. To give you an idea, it tasted like chilli crab. The three bouncy big scallops with roes were good, and linguine tasted like factory made though.
Ravioli alla Crema di Funghi Porcini (Homemade pasta with porcini mushroom stuffing in light cream sauce) $22
We absolutely love this dish, the porcini scent was simply delightful. Though the cream was rich and filled with cheesy flavour but the porcini was not overpowered in any way.
Regarding the 1-for-1 offer, we were not informed that only a limited range of pasta dishes were applicable meaning the ones listed under the category of Pasta e Riso ($16.50- $20). And we were only told upon ordering which was after we made the decisions based on the other list labelled as Specialita dello Chef ($22 – $48).
Anyway, since we were not interested in the former list, we went ahead anyway, luckily there was a 15% discount for a-la-carte items to avail of. I think the management should state the promotion clearer.
Total damage was $52.21 (including 10% service charge & 7% GST – Singapore dining scene’s compulsory charges unless otherwise stated by the establishment).
Overall, it was a good dining experience, service was keen and polite. I might be back again for set lunch.
